It happened on Saturday, Feb. 29 just after 1:30 a.m. in Central Islip.
Third Precinct officers on a routine patrol in an unmarked police vehicle observed Jerry McKoy, 54, of Central Islip, striking Elias Ortiz-Campos, 44, of Central Islip, during a robbery in the parking lot of Laundry Palace, located at 18 E. Suffolk Ave., Suffolk County Police said.
The officers intervened and arrested McKoy.
Ortiz-Campos was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
McKoy was charged with first-degree robbery and for an outstanding warrant. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday morning.
